Over the last few weeks, we have intentionally allowed the dust to settle.
We know growers across the State of Florida are reeling from the unprecedented cold weather that swept through our region — from south of Lake Okeechobee to north of Orlando.
Whether you grow blueberries, strawberries, corn, citrus, or winter vegetables, we know this season has been difficult.
And we want you to know something clearly:
MoonBeam Land Company stands with you, your family, and your farm.
Our connection to this is not theoretical.
In the 1980s, a series of devastating freezes permanently transformed our family’s 100+ year citrus operation. When the final freeze of 1989 hit, it was not just another tough season — it was a generational turning point. What had been built over decades changed almost overnight.
Our operation went from employing several hundred workers to only a few dozen within months. The impact rippled across families, communities, and the entire industry. Our story is not uncommon, and played out across the industry in those days without discrimination.
Even into the 1990s, I remember being a young boy — soaked to the bone in freezing water — crawling under thousands of citrus trees with nothing more than a paper clip, unclogging micro-jet emitters during freeze events, hoping to raise the temperature just enough to protect what we could.
Sometimes it worked.
Sometimes it didn’t.
But you showed up anyway.
When you’ve lived through it, you never forget it
That is why this message is simple:
We see you.
We respect you.
We are praying for you.
It may be difficult to imagine words like peace, comfort, or even joy in a season like this. But hope is not naïve — it is necessary. Agriculture has always been built on hope. The days and months ahead may bring challenges. But you will overcome. You always have, and you always will. Better days are ahead — not as wishful thinking, but as the natural result of resilience, faith, and perseverance.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, because having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” – James 1:12
If there is any way we can assist, please let us know. Dig deep. You got this.
Florida agriculture is resilient.
Florida land endures.
And so do the families who steward it.
With respect and solidarity,
