Where Does “MOONBEAM” Come From?
People ask us this all the time. The answer takes us back over 100 years — to a 1920s citrus label, a family legacy, and the land that shaped it all.
A Legacy Written in Florida Soil
My family came to Florida over 200 years ago. By the 1880s, they had settled in Oviedo, where my Great Grandfather, B.F. Wheeler built something remarkable: citrus groves, celery farms, cattle operations, a packing house, and Wheeler Fertilizer.
At its height, the operation spanned 3,000 acres of citrus across Florida, alongside ranching and other agricultural ventures. It was a business built on hard work, stewardship, and an intimate understanding of the land.
The Birth of MoonBeam
In the 1920s, Florida citrus growers faced a challenge: how do you stand out when your product is being shipped by rail to customers hundreds of miles away?
The answer was citrus labels: bold, colorful designs that helped growers build brand recognition in cold-weather markets. B.F. Wheeler created several labels for his companies, but one has always stood out to me:
MOONBEAM.
As a boy, I was captivated by the artistry and the name itself. There was something timeless about it — classic, evocative, and unmistakably Floridian. That admiration has never faded.
Honoring the Past, Building the Future
When I founded this company in late 2022, the name was never in question. MoonBeam Land Company is a tribute to my ancestors and a continuation of a legacy that began more than a century ago.
We are 7th-generation Floridians. We know this state’s land, its history, and its people — not from a textbook, but from lived experience. That heritage informs everything we do: how we evaluate property, how we serve our clients, and how we approach stewardship of Florida’s finite and precious land.
This isn’t just business for us. It’s in our blood.
